Trapped in the future, the Wizard is searching for the similarly-trapped Dr. Frightful, with the help of Forever Victory's Ruby Thursday and Blastaar. The For-Vees hope that Frightful can help solve the blight of "anti-energy" that threatens the solar system, but his escape has prompted the team to split up. After all, half of them still need to get help from Kang, the Master of Time, to get the "right" Frightful back.
Norman Osborn has come home from the hospital-- the penthouse is dark and quiet. Soft sounds inside? Is anyone there?! It's some shadowy figure, raiding his son's room! But when the intruder is caught, he turns. It's Harry!
They are six most sinister! The Vulture! Scorcher! Spider-Man! The Assassin! Scorpion! Brother Voodoo! The Kingpin has assembled them all -- as all for one purpose! They will attack Norman Osborn-- together! But... Osborn is in the hospital, recovering in a coma, because the Kingpin himself had shot him! No matter! Osborn must die-- TONIGHT!
Matt Murdock & his assistant, Miss E, are escorting one of the Kingpin's more famous lieutenants (ah, ah, ah! 'suspected' lieutenants!) OUT of the court house, where they are mobbed by reporters and paparazzi. As Pat Mulligan's lawyer, Murdock managed to throw out all charges-- after all, how did the police capture him? With the help of the alleged 'Green Goblin,' an urban legend, a boogeyman? Pshaw! Murdock assures the public that such 'goblins' won't be plaguing the 'good citizens' of N.Y., ever again! In fact, he *personally* assures it! But... the impromptu press conference is cut short by an eruption of smoke and lights! In the middle of the resulting confusion, Murdock hears something no one can- and his secret radar sense 'sees' something no one did. Around that corner, high above the scene, a goblin just ducked out of sight! But how that can be! Murdock, as the Kingpin of Crime himself, had the Green Goblin, Norman Osborn, shot and left for dead!
Matt Murdock had built a reputation as quite a shark in the courtroom because he could read people, despite his blindness, and it was proving quite a aid to him at the Club, observing his target, Norman Osborn. As he points out to his assistant, Miss E-- notice how shifty he looks, how he can't help but perspire, how anxious his movements are. Miss E marveled, it was as if Murdock could peer into his very thoughts! But, oh, if only that were true! The reason Osborn was so preoccupied? His son had walked out on him, and disappeared!
The Kingpin schemes in the darkening twilight of his office. No one else can see his enshrouded features, adding to his mystery, his ominous purpose! His villainous right hand, the Assassin, reminds the Kingpin that the evening approaches, but the Kingpin likes the dark-- it allows him to see more clearly than anyone else. And what he foresees is the downfall of the only man to dare defy the Kingpin-- Norman Osborn!
The evil Thor rains terror upon New York! Is there anyone who can stop this rampage? Anyone who can hold back the forces of a mayhem, the personal of pure plundering and pillaging? It is he-- the Gremlin! With a melodramatic speech and a mighty right hook, the Gremlin lays the Viking god flat -- to the cheers of all around him! "Harry!" "Harry!" "Harry?"
Harry Osborn can't go home! He's swaddled in scarves to hide his identity-- but he still can't sneak past the police who have surrounded his building! He can see Capt. Stacy and the Sandman leading the investigation, saying that the good people of New York deserve to see the menace of Spider-Man taken down once and for all! "That Harry Osborn," Stacy adds, "has a lot to answer for!"
Harry Osborn walked up to the Stacy residence, dreading each step. It wasn't Gwen that wanted to see him, but her dad! But what would be the alternative? Staying home with his own dad, after blowing off his dad's invitation to a ball AND then blowing off helping his dad escape from the Assassin and the Enforcers? But when he reached the door, Harry heard a sudden movement toward his head. Watch out!
The Kingpin of Crime stares, silently, from behind his eyeless, full-face mask. One of the criminal lieutenants in the alleyway offers an apology-- the arms supply was destroyed by some… monster! But if the Kingpin feels anything, it's masked by the sudden retaliation of a billy club, striking the criminal in the nose and sending him to the floor. If there's one thing the Kingpin cannot tolerate more than failure-- it's lying.
