Trapped in the future, the Wizard is searching for the similarly-trapped Dr. Frightful, with the help of Forever Victory's Ruby Thursday and Blastaar. The For-Vees hope that Frightful can help solve the blight of "anti-energy" that threatens the solar system, but his escape has prompted the team to split up. After all, half of them still need to get help from Kang, the Master of Time, to get the "right" Frightful back.

Matt Murdock & his assistant, Miss E, are escorting one of the Kingpin's more famous lieutenants (ah, ah, ah! 'suspected' lieutenants!) OUT of the court house, where they are mobbed by reporters and paparazzi. As Pat Mulligan's lawyer, Murdock managed to throw out all charges-- after all, how did the police capture him? With the help of the alleged 'Green Goblin,' an urban legend, a boogeyman? Pshaw! Murdock assures the public that such 'goblins' won't be plaguing the 'good citizens' of N.Y., ever again! In fact, he *personally* assures it! But... the impromptu press conference is cut short by an eruption of smoke and lights! In the middle of the resulting confusion, Murdock hears something no one can- and his secret radar sense 'sees' something no one did. Around that corner, high above the scene, a goblin just ducked out of sight! But how that can be! Murdock, as the Kingpin of Crime himself, had the Green Goblin, Norman Osborn, shot and left for dead!

Matt Murdock had built a reputation as quite a shark in the courtroom because he could read people, despite his blindness, and it was proving quite a aid to him at the Club, observing his target, Norman Osborn. As he points out to his assistant, Miss E-- notice how shifty he looks, how he can't help but perspire, how anxious his movements are. Miss E marveled, it was as if Murdock could peer into his very thoughts! But, oh, if only that were true! The reason Osborn was so preoccupied? His son had walked out on him, and disappeared!

The Kingpin of Crime stares, silently, from behind his eyeless, full-face mask. One of the criminal lieutenants in the alleyway offers an apology-- the arms supply was destroyed by some⦠monster! But if the Kingpin feels anything, it's masked by the sudden retaliation of a billy club, striking the criminal in the nose and sending him to the floor. If there's one thing the Kingpin cannot tolerate more than failure-- it's lying.
