A billionaire industrialist made it happen-- recreating the experiment that created the Fantastic Four, making himself into VECTOR and his crew as VAPOR, X-RAY, and IRONCLAD!
They're some of Marvel's most underused characters, but I really love 'em. For one, and first and foremost, it's because they have such a unique look-- crazy costume designs (but they're really not costumes, right?) done by Sal Buscema back in the day. For the other-- they are obviously meant to be knock offs for the Fantastic Four, but they've never really fought the Four at all, which is frustrating but actually really funny if you think about it.
And they feature prominently in Siege #1 (here pictured by Olivier Copiel.) That's right! Who does Norman Osborn get to go on the front line of his Siege of Asgard? Our U-Foes! (Well, apparently? also Diamondback, so... alright then.) Maybe beating down the thunder god will allow these guys to raise their profile a bit, and take their game to the next level.
Since the U-Foes got their start fighting the Hulk, I wonder if their new status as heavy-hitters would allow them to heavy hit other heavy hitters-- like the Red Hulk? Like this?
