WERE I TO WRITE: FANTASTIC FOUR
Hey, look! An original sketch!
Hopefully I'll be able to update the blog with a few new sketches here and there. Still have a lot of busy-ness, but if you can't practice your skills, you gonna lose 'em, right?
So there's a few story problems with the Invisible Woman. First of all, when's the last time she's really been called the Invisible Woman? She's always just Sue. But maybe that's because when's the last time she's really used her invisible powers? There's no reason to do so when her other power set of force fields is so strong. Third of all, when's the last time she's really been in a superhero battle?
Now, part of the problem is that the Fantastic Four overall really should get back into the swing of superheroing "for realz," and not just react to things as they happen *to* the team from the outside, but that's a whole 'nother post. Let's assume that the FF are actively engaged in amazing adventures every day. What should the Invisible Woman be like?
First of all, she shouldn't be at the forefront of every battle. Her personality, her protectiveness (some say "mothering"), and powerset make sense for her to duck out of sight, circle around, and be tactical. Let Johnny and Ben be the ones who take point; Sue runs support. Let her Invisibility mean Stealth. Even with this as her only power is enough to keep her one of the most powerful members.
Only power? Well, we've all seen the stories about how Reed and Sue are oh-so-bad parents because their children are always in harm's way, right? But how's this for a twist-- Reed is forced to 'save' Franklin and Valeria by passing along powers to them so they can protect themselves. Franklin gets his dad's plasticity, and Valeria her mom's force fields. (Something about the kids being disposed to genetic transfer.) Sue retains her invisibility, and Reed his intellect, but now there's the Fantasti-Kid and Girl-Force.
But overall, it's Sue's indomitable force to fight that's her greatest power. It's a will to fight because she is the ultimate protector to her loved ones. Yes, that means that she's a little overbearing to her younger brother, and a little meddlesome to her husband's best friend, but just try to cross her or threaten the safety of her home and hearth. Yup, she's the most powerful member, for sure!
